Kentucky, the birthplace of bluegrass music, and the Kentucky Derby has some of the most scenic views in America. Many choose to take their RVs out on the open road, touring this beautiful state. Those who are making the tour may be surprised to realize just how many places there are for them to park and spend a night or more enjoying nature surrounded by beauty. Whether you simply want somewhere secluded enough to listen to your favorite songs, read a book, or even roast marshmallows over an open flame with no fear of being caught, these campgrounds have something for everyone.
A list of great campgrounds follows. All offer amenities such as sewer connections, cable hookups, water hookups, restrooms, and showers. They also all have at least one utility hookup site.
1. Cave Country RV Campground
Cave Country RV Campground is a wonderful place to go camping near the bluegrass state. This particular campground is located just 3 miles from downtown Georgetown Kentucky and has quite a bit of available amenities to go along with it.
It includes full hookup sites, each with cable tv and wifi – septic tank or connection for RVs under 40 feet or dry camping, tent sites on the grassy area, 2 bathhouses with free hot showers, restrooms, and walking trails right outside your doorstep!
On top of all that, they have an awesome general store where you can buy anything from food to fishing supplies. They even sell some fishing licenses and bait! It’s a favorite place for fishermen.
2. Elkhorn Campground
Elkhorn Campground is a campground located in the beautiful state of Kentucky. This beautiful campground is sitting on over 600 acres and spans across three different counties, which include Jefferson County, Bullitt County, and Oldham County. Elkhorn Campground has various amenities such as ponds for fishing, play areas, basketball courts, and horseshoes courts and boat rentals, kayaks, and paddleboards. This campground also boasts many sites that are only one hundred feet from either the Ohio River or Lake Elkhorn.
3. Corbin / Laurel Lake KOAA
If you are looking for an easy to get to RV campground, near the major city of Lexington, Kentucky this is a perfect choice. The location is only 130 miles outside of Lexington and it would take you less than 3 hours to drive there. It is located on Laurel Lake near Barbourville Kentucky which has activities like fishing, boating, hiking, basketball court, and playgrounds for children. This makes it great for families or people who enjoy outdoor activities. There are also showers on site so you don’t have to worry about an unclean place after spending time camping at this park.
The KOA brand has over 500 locations spread out across North America and they’re known for their high-quality service with clean spaces that are close to most tourist attractions. A lot of people prefer staying at KOAs because of how many activities there are around each location. They also have full hookups so it’s easy to go ahead and start your vacation without having to worry about finding another place with everything you need for your stay. There are also several restroom facilities on site which makes life easier if you do not want to share one toilet or shower with other guests. A large number of sites can easily be made into your home away from home if you have a large family or just prefer to have extra space.

4. Whispering Hills RV Park
Whispering Hills RV Park is a great campground for its amenities and location. In fact, it’s so great that many people treat this place as their home away from home. The views will amaze you, and there is plenty to visit nearby, such as Mammoth Cave National Park and Land Between the Lakes. The staff will make you feel at home and there’s plenty of activities to keep you busy, such as their award-winning mini-golf course and dog park. 5. Renfro Valley KOA
Renfro Valley KOA is a great choice for those who want to relax and enjoy the beauty of Kentucky’s countryside. The campground offers over 500 acres of beautiful land with lush greenery, rolling hills, ponds, streams, and even a fishing lake! In addition to camping options – both regular and deluxe – there are cabins available that range from two-person units to large homes that can sleep up to 12 people. All units come fully equipped with air conditioning, heaters, full bathrooms, showers & tubs, fully functional kitchens (including stovetops and ovens), refrigerator(s), microwave(s), coffee maker(s), toaster(s), dishes and utensils, and beds with linens!
Renfro Valley KOA also boasts a few fun activities and amenities. Each day is packed full of things to do. The facility also boasts a commercial kitchen where catering services are available along with fresh baked items for sale daily. 6. Cave Country RV Park
The isolated Cave Country RV Park is a 60-acre campground with paved roads, gravel sites, and well-spaced tree coverage. About half of the sites are back-in and half are pull-throughs. The park has a bathhouse, laundry facility, swimming pool, playground, dump station, picnic area with pavilion and fire ring/grill combos, gazebo next to a pond with a waterfall feature, and tables for 4 or more people. There is a shuttle service available from 8 AM to 10 PM for those who want to enjoy the scenery around Bowling Green without having to drive themselves.
7. Singing Hills RV Park

8. Jellystone Park, Mammoth Cave Kentucky
Jellystone Park in Mammoth Cave is the best campground for RV’s in Kentucky. It has sites with full hookups, water, electricity, and 50 amp service. There are also primitive (no hookup) sites available. All sites offer free wi-fi. The park offers pool access, a game room, clubhouse, playground equipment, and much more to keep you entertained throughout your stay. Children’s activities are offered during select months to give parents time to just relax while their little ones play all day long!
For each camper, there is a picnic table provided along with a fire ring. Fires must be contained within the ring or grate provided at each site. Only dead wood can be used so it is wise to bring your own firewood with you.
Fishing is another activity that can be taken advantage of here. There are two ponds within the park where fish are stocked every other week during the fishing season, which runs from October to May! All licenses are sold on-site if one happens to forget theirs at home.
If hiking is more your speed, there are trails nearby for guests to roam around on. The Mammoth Cave National Park begins just behind the campground, so start exploring!
9. Cummins Ferry RV Park
Kentucky is home to many wonderful campgrounds and each of them has something unique to offer visitors. Whether you’re looking for a place to spend your summer months in the sun or an adventure in the great outdoors during autumn, there’s a unique camping experience waiting just for you. This campground is located in the heart of North Central Kentucky, along the scenic Ohio River. The park offers long-term and monthly rates for RVs, cabins, camping sites for tents, fishing trips on the Ohio River, and even shuttle services. Guests have access to laundry facilities with restrooms nearby. It’s an incredibly convenient place to set up shop while taking advantage of all that this region has to offer.
The scenery alone is worth the trip down I-71 N toward Carrollton, KY. Flanked by rolling hillsides and farmland throughout most of its journey northward from Tennessee into the Bluegrass State, it’s hard not to fall in love with this area of the country. Cummins Ferry RV Park is also close to the University of Kentucky in Lexington, making it an ideal place to stay while visiting campus or checking out that city’s many offerings.
10. Barren Fork Horse Camp
The Barren Fork Horse Campplands offer campsites for tents and those camping with their horses. The campgrounds are situated in the northern portion of the Daniel Boone National Forest between Lexington and Berea, Kentucky. There are 36 sites available with electric hookups as well as 4 primitive sites. In addition to modern bathrooms with hot showers, there is also a wash rack, restroom shelter, picnic tables, fire rings, and a concession stand on site. The Barren Fork Horse Camp was once home to a coal mining community. The town was built in the 1920s, but quickly became abandoned when all of its residents were forced to leave during the 1970s. The land now belongs to both Barren Fork Horse Camp and the United States Government. The campgrounds are open from April 1 through December 1 for a fee each night.
11. Crockett Frontiers Campground
The campground is in Grand Rivers, a village of about 350-400 people that stands on the shores of and between the twin lakes Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley . Crockett Frontiers Campground offers a quiet, rustic camping experience. The main activity here is relaxing by the lake and taking in nature and its surroundings. There are also activities such as biking and hiking trips that can be taken into the surrounding forests.

12. Falls Creek Cabin and Campground
Located near Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, it is part of the Sheltowee Trace Outfitters complex, which specializes in whitewater rafting, canoe trips, and other outdoor activities. It features both tent and RV sites, as well as cabin rentals, some of which are adjacent to the Cumberland River. A popular destination for hiking, boating, and fishing in addition to being a great place to spend time with your family in a picturesque location.
13. Kentucky River Campgrounds
Kentucky River Campgrounds is a beautiful state park that offers amenities on the Kentucky River. You can relax on top of the water or at your campsite which is set along the river.
This camping facility is on the Kentucky River and has 104 full-service sites, a camp store, a laundry facility, and showers.
A dump station is available as well as a boat ramp, picnic tables, and grills within the park boundaries. Laundry facilities, restrooms with hot showers and flush toilets, firewood sales, and payphone are also located in the park. You can stay connected with free long-distance telephone access offered at this campground if you don’t want to use your mobile phone carrier while camping out here…

14. Pioneer Playhouse Campground
The campground offers 35 sites and is located 100 yards from Kentucky’s oldest outdoor theater, the Pioneer Playhouse, which presents 5 professional shows throughout the summer.
The campground is within walking distance of the Tater Knob Cafe, which offers American home-style food.
Nearby attractions include Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park, nine golf courses, and horseback riding stables.
Many sites are surrounded by woods while others offer easy access to Pioneer Lake. The campgrounds also feature a pool (open Memorial Day through Labor Day), hot showers, and modern bathhouses with laundry rooms offering coin-operated washers and dryers. Pets are welcome at Pioneer Playhouse Campgrounds for an additional $3 per day fee. Sites can be reserved up to one year in advance by reserving.
